Oil prices make slight gains Tuesday
09/07/2010 07:54 P (EST)
NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices rose slightly in New York Tuesday, but held under $74 per barrel as concern over a stalled recovery continues to dominate economic news.

Crude oil prices last topped $80 per barrel on Aug. 10. The decline was briefly reversed in late August, when Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke reassured investors the central bank would take steps to maintain liquidity in the marketplace. A brief upswing a week ago accompanied a surge in stock prices. Beyond that, prices have settled into the $70 to $75 per barrel range.

After a Labor Day holiday, October delivery light, sweet crude oil added 10 cents over the course of the day to $73.81 per barrel. Heating oil prices added 0.0072 cents to $2.0645 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline prices gained 0.0061 cents to $1.9256 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices lost 0.059 cents to $3.88 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline was $2.682 per gallon Tuesday, down from Monday's $2.683, AAA said.
