WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Only 38 percent of U.S. adults are happy that healthcare reform has become law, while 46 percent are dissatisfied, a poll released Tuesday indicated.
The percentage who are not happy about the bill has grown by 4 percentage points since June, Angus Reid Public Opinion said. In another signal of the public mood, 29 percent of those surveyed said they were strongly dissatisfied, while only 9 percent had strong positive feelings.
There is a strong partisan tilt to attitudes on healthcare reform. But even among Democrats, 44 percent expect reform to make medical care more expensive, along with 75 percent of Republicans and 62 percent of independents, for an overall 57 percent.
While 20 percent expect reform to improve the quality of medical care, 23 percent say it will stay about the same and 42 percent say it will get worse. The last group includes 73 percent of Republicans, 47 percent of independents and 21 percent of Democrats.
Angus Reid, based in Toronto, surveyed 1,000 members of its Springboard America panel online on Sept. 1-2. The margin of error is 3.1 percentage points.
